Qualifications

The Physical Fitness Badge is intended to recognize those who have excelled in physical fitness, which is considered an important aspect for military service. The only documentation required to award the Physical Fitness Badge is the record scorecard indicating the soldier has met the standard for the badge. If the soldier fails to meet the standard at a later date, the badge is no longer authorized for wear on the uniform.

Usage

The Physical Fitness Badge is worn only on the Army's physical training uniform, and is not worn on any other uniform of the U.S. Army. When worn, it is sewn on the upper left front side of the physical fitness uniform shirt, the improved physical fitness uniform shirt, and the physical fitness uniform sweatshirt. On the improved physical fitness running jacket, the insignia is sewn centered 1/2 inch (13 mm) above the word "Army".

The two physical fitness uniforms authorized for wear in DA PAM 670-1 o 10 April 2015 are classified as: 1. The improved physical fitness uniform (IPFU) which is gray and black. The wear-out date for this uniform is 30 September 2017, after which is it no longer authorized for wear. 2. The Army physical fitness uniform (APFU) which is black and gold. The mandatory possession date for this uniform is 1 October 2017.
